INTRODUCCIÓN
(WARM UP)
Read the text
When you first arrive at a foreign culture,
often your first reaction is completely positive. Everything seems exciting,
different, and fascinating. It is an adventure. If you are just on a short
holiday, you will probably never leave this phase, but if you stay longer, your
attitude can start to change.
As you start to realize how
little you really understand the new culture, life can get frustrating. People misunderstand
what you are trying to say, or they might laugh at you for saying
something incorrectly. Even simple things, like posting a letter
can seem impossible difficult, and you are likely to overreact by
getting angry or upset when things go wrong.
With time, though you start
to adjust, to become more comfortable with the differences and better able to
handle frustrating situations. Your sense of humor reappears.
Finally, you reach the stage of feeling able to be enthusiastic about the
culture once again, enjoy living in it, and maybe even prefer certain aspects
of the culture to your own

¿QUÉ APRENDÍ? (EVALUATION)
Read the
following text, underline the words with prefixes.
Yesterday, I read an incredible story. It was about a wealthy man called
Tomlin who lived alone. He had been so unkind to everyone that no-one wanted to
see him. Even his childhood friends had abandoned him. His only interest was
his monthly income. He was a very greedy man and did not want to share his
fortune with anyone. One night, he fell asleep and had an unusual dream. He saw
a very old man who told him that if he wanted his freedom, things would have to
change. Tomlin didn´t understand.
“I am free”, he said. The fragile old man shook his head
“No”, he said. “Look”
Tomlin looked down and saw that his hands and his feet were tied
together. He tried to move but he could not.
“Untie me!” he shouted.
“This is your punishment”, said the old man. “If you don´t promise to
help those who are more unfortunate than you, you will never wake up again”.
“I promise, I promise”, Tomlin cried.
“Remember”, continued the old man. “If you don´t change, I will return”.
Tomlin awoke. He was free, but
when he looked at his reflection in the mirror he stared in disbelief. He still
had strange red marks around his wrists and his ankles!
From that day, he became a different person.

Person A: Hi Maria! You look unhappy. What's wrong?
Person B: Oh, hi Carlos. I dislike my new alarm clock. It misbehaves
every morning.
Person A: Really? How does it misbehave? Does it ring too early?
Person B: No, it underrings! It rings way too late. I always oversleep.
Person A: That's terrible! Why don't you replace it?
Person B: I will! I plan to recharge my old phone and use that as my alarm
instead.
Person A: That sounds like a good idea. I hope it uncomplicates your
mornings!
Person B: Me too! Thanks, Carlos. I appreciate your suggestion.
